City Council Meetings Greensboro City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday, December 1, at 4 pm in the Council Chambers of the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St. Review meeting agenda. Council's regularly schedule meeting follows at 5:30 pm at which the new City Council will be sworn in. Review this meeting's agenda.
Council meetings are open to the public and are also aired live on Channel 13 and through videostreaming on this Web site. Parking is available in the Greene Street Parking Deck.
Parks & Recreation Director
The City has selected Gregory Jackson as its new director of the Parks and Recreation Department. Gregory, currently director of Park Operations and Athletic Services for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department in Charlotte, assumes his new role on January 16. Read more.
Thanksgiving Schedule City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26-27, in observance of Thanksgiving. There will be no trash / recycling collection Thursday, November 26. Instead, collection took place Wednesday, November 25. Collection on Friday, November 27, remains the same. Read more.
School Donation
Greensboro Police Officers Chris Alexander and Adam Crozier deliver an arcade-style claw machine to a Gillespie Park Elementary School classroom, after the previous machine was stolen November 13. The two officers raised money from fellow officers to purchase another machine and found a similar item for sale in Cary. The game's owner, when he heard about the theft, donated the machine to the school and the officers picked it up on their day off.
Festival of Lights Kick off your holiday season with the 21st annual Festival of Lights celebration from 5:45-9 pm Friday, December 4, in downtown Greensboro. Join a musical stroll along Elm Street and visit local shops and galleries, chat with Santa at Hamburger Square Park and listen to holiday stories, and watch the lighting of a 38-foot Christmas tree at Center City Park. Street Light Outages
If you see any street lights that aren't working, are damaged or are on during the day, please report them to the City's Contact Center at 373-CITY (2489) or use the online request form on the street light outage Web page. To request a street light, call the Contact Center.
Flu Shot Clinics
Guilford County's Department of Public Health is sponsoring two flu shot clinics Saturday, December 5, one in Greensboro and one in High Point. Both seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines will be given. H1N1 shots will be reserved for the priority groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read more.

Loose Leaf Collection
The City's annual Loose Leaf Collection Program is now in full swing. Leaves that were swept to the curbside by November 9 will be picked up by December 12. Check the status of collection in your area by using this interactive map.
Going Digital
Greensboro's government access station, Channel 13, is currently converting outdated and unserviceable analogue equipment to digital. During this time, there may be some unintended, brief audio or video signal interruptions. The City apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.
