On November 7, 1933, the Greensboro City Council passed an ordinance that created the first Recreation Commission. The Commission became instrumental in forming the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department. Today, this nine-member Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Parks & Recreation Department and the Greensboro City Council, and as a liaison between these groups and Greensboro residents. The Greensboro Parks & Recreation Commission meets the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open to the public.
