Step One: Attend a GYC Orientation, held once a month at Full Council meetings. Full Council meetings begin at 6:30 pm and are held at the GYC office. Next meeting.

 

Step Two: Fill out a GYC Application.

 

Step Three: Work 10 hours within 60 days of orientation.

Step Four:
Pay a one-time membership fee of $10.

Volunteering for GYC:

Want to volunteer for a GYC project or need community service hours for your school club? Below are some options for volunteering. Any high school student is welcome to volunteer; you do not have to be a member. View the GYC Calendar for all volunteer opportunities.

September 12 - Black and White Party: GYC Black and White party provides a safe environment where Guilford County high school students can come together and celebrate going back to school. It is also a place for students to have a lot of fun and socialize with different people from different schools. This event is free and all guests will receive free admission into the Central Carolina Fair.

September 19 - Community Litter Clean-up: Volunteers pick up trash at GYC's adopted stream to promote environmental awareness.

October 24 - Ghoulash: Ghoulash! is a project of the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC). GYC takes over the Greensboro Cultural District for four hours of spooktackular candy-grabbing fun!  Volunteers paint faces, work in the maze, pass out candy, host Bingo, helps with a costume contest and do event set up and breakdown.

November 7 - Tree Planting: GYC will assist for the first time with the city-wide tree planting. Volunteers will assist with planting, mulching and watering of new trees.

November 14 - Artistry Awards Auditions: Volunteers register art pieces, assist with auditioners, and help with event set-up and break-down. See the Artistry Awards page for more information.

November 21 - Sexual Attitudes Workshop: Sexual Attitudes Workshops provide information for high school students on sexually transmitted diseases, protection, teen pregnancy, stereotypes and abstinence. Participants have a chance to ask questions and discuss what they have learned. All participants must have parental permission.

December 5 (1-5 pm) and December 9-11 (4-6 pm)  - Santa's Workshop: Volunteers are needed to help sort and clean donated toys to be distributed to families in need this holiday season.

December 6 - Winter walk for AIDS: Volunteers raise funds and walk to support AIDS research.

February 27 - Artistry Awards Finals: Volunteers work the ticket window, usher guests, work as stage crew, and help with event set-up and break-down. See the Artistry Awards page for more information.

March 6 - Heritage Greene Day: Volunteers visit and spend time with the residents of Heritage Greene Retirement Community.

March  31 - Community Litter Clean-up: Volunteers pick up trash at GYC's adopted stream to promote environmental awareness. See the Adopted Stream Clean-Up page for more information.

April 10 - Camille's Magic Closet: Volunteers help gather, sort, and group prom dresses for girls who cannot afford to purchase a new dress for their prom.

May 11-16 - GYC Carnival: Volunteers sell tickets, take tickets, paint faces, work at the stage, do event preparation, help at the GYC maze, and much more. See the GYC Carnival page for more information.
