Parks Departments Host Bridge-Building Competition
In celebration of National Engineer’s Week, Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem’s Parks and Recreation departments will host three, simultaneous popsicle stick bridge-building competitions for kids and adults from 10 am to 1 pm, Saturday, February 24. The winners from each city competition will go on to a regional competition at 10 am to 1 pm, March 10, at Bur-Mil Park Meeting and Events Center at Bur-Mil Park, 5834 Bur-Mil Club Rd.
Participants will compete as individuals in four age groups: 8-10, 11-14, 15-17, and adult. Bridges will be judged based on how much weight they will support, divided by the total mass of the structures. The top three most efficient bridges in each of the youth categories and the first place in the adult category will advance to the regional competition. There will also be a prize in each age group for the most creative design.
