The Greensboro Youth Chorus
The Greensboro Youth Chorus will be accepting new members in the fall of 2009. Auditions will be held in the early spring of 2008. Please contact the Music Center if you are interested is setting up an audition for the 2009-10 Season.
The mission of GYC is to provide children the opportunity to participate in a musical experience that is challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable. Through practice and performance, GYC fosters the personal, musical, and social growth of each child, while promoting self-esteem and self-discipline. GYC also contributes to the quality of the cultural life of its members and the community as a whole.
GYC is a nonprofit organization sponsored by the Music Center, City Arts, and the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department. Ann Doyle founded the GYC through the sponsorship of the Music Center in the spring of 1988.
The organization is now celebrating more than 20 years of choral excellence, with current enrollment of more than 90 auditioned singers in three choirs. Each choir represents a different level of vocal ability. The choirs range from grades 3-12. GYC is a music education and performance based organization
designed to provide young singers the opportunity to participate in a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable musical experience.
GYC has had many prestigious and exciting performance experiences including state, national, and international competitions and festivals, as well as collaborations with outstanding conductors, composers, and instrumentalists.
Members have performed for the Southern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association and have toured British Columbia, Germany, France, Scotland ,and England. In 1998, GYC released its first CD, Celebrating 10 Years of Choral Excellence.
In 2003, GYC received the Award of Merit from the Euterpe Club of Greensboro for outstanding achievement in the progress of "better music in the Greensboro area."
