About District 4
District 4 reaches north as far as Drawbridge Parkway and south to Bus. 40 W and High Point Road. The district's western boundary generally follows New Garden and College roads and the eastern section generally follows West Friendly Avenue, Hobbs Road and Battleground Avenue.
The district has a long history of being an important part of Greensboro's history. Of particular interest in this district are:
- Aycock Auditorium – This popular auditorium originally opened in 1927 seats 2300 people and is used for our large musical productions. Aycock Auditorium is located on the
corner of Spring Garden and Tate Streets.
- Bog Garden – At Hobbs Road and Starmount Farms Road is one of the city’s most unusual gardens. An elevated wood plank walkway provides access through this wetland for visitors to see the many varieties of plants and birds indigenous to the area.
- Carolyn S. Allen Park and Athletic Complex – Named for former Greensboro mayor Carolyn Allen, this park features four tournament fields that can be rented for private tournament use and for larger special events. Other amenities include bleacher seating, concession stand, press-box tower and picnic shelters just outside the park.
- Folk Teen Center – Folk Teen Center, 3910 Clifton Road, caters to Greensboro’s teenagers with year round events and programs. The flagship program, Youth First, partners with nonprofit organizations and service providers for teenagers and their families.
- Greensboro Montessori School – The Greensboro Montessori School on Horsepen Creek Road serves more than 350 children in a comprehensive program for infants through middle school.
- Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library – This library, located in Price Park, includes a bird and butterfly meadow, reading garden, walking trails, ponds, and wetlands. In addition to popular collections, the library also has an extensive collection of nature, gardening, and environmental resources for children and adults.
- Lindley Park – Lindley Park, a residential neighborhood around a public park, renews and invigorates its 1917 origins in the 21st Century. In 2004, the City of Greensboro and the Lindley Park Neighborhood Association partnered to develop a Neighborhood Plan to determine needs and concerns of the neighborhood, evaluate alternative solutions, outline strategies, and determine implementation procedures and resources.
- Lindley Recreation Center – 2907 Springwood Drive is home to this neighborhood center with such sessions as an after school program, stamp collecting, youth basketball and cotillion etiquette, all in a facility with a kitchen, gym and several meeting rooms.
- New Garden Friends School – Pre-kindergarten through 12 attend this Quaker principled school on New Garden Road.
- Our Lady of Grace Catholic School – This Catholic school on West Market Street provides instruction for kindergarten through eighth grade.
- Price Park – Price Park is a beautiful, natural area that is also used as an outdoor classroom for the Kathleen Clay Edward Library. Development plans include linking Price Park Greenway to the Bicentennial Greenway at Carolyn S. Allen Community Park on Horsepen Creek Road.
- Starmount Forest Country Club – Starmount Forest is a private, member-owned club on Sam Snead Drive. Situated on 150 acres, this 75-year-old club offers both golf and social memberships to qualifying applicants.
