About District 2 District 2 reaches north bordering most of Lake Townsend and along US 29 to the south near the intersection of Wendover Avenue and Burlington Road. District boundaries then generally follow East Market Street to downtown Greensboro and the western border generally follows N. Church Street. District 2 also includes several satellite annexation areas both east and west of US 29.
The district has a long history of being an important part of Greensboro's history. Of particular interest in this district are:
- Broach Theatre – Located in downtown Greensboro, the Broach Theatre was founded in 1987 in the building that served originally as the home of the Salvation Army from 1927 to 1975. A theatre company leases the auditorium on the ground level and business offices are on the second floor.
- Bryan Park – Bryan Park provides year-round recreation, including golf, tennis, volleyball, soccer and other park activities. Some public and private instruction is available. Bryan Enrichment Center is available on a rental basis for private social events and seminars. All this can be found at 6275 Bryan Park Road.
- Craft Recreation Center – Seniors, summer camp, ESOL classes and more are available at this center.
- Farmers’ Curb Market – The Farmers’ Curb Market is one of the oldest markets in North Carolina. Features include fresh produce, dairy products, home-baked goods, fresh-cut flowers, potted and bedding plants, and hand-crafted items.
- Gateway Education Center – Gateway is widely recognized as a model for programs for special physical needs children ages 5 through 21. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
- Greensboro Training and Employment Services – Also known as the Guilford County JobLink Career Center System, the center brings together the expertise and resources of workforce, community, and economic development organizations to deliver services in a seamless system.
- Greensboro Sportsplex – The Greensboro Sportsplex is a multi-sports facility, offering inline hockey, basketball, volleyball, badminton, cheerleading, soccer, and personal training. In addition to local leagues, the Sportsplex plays host to numerous regional and national events.
- Hayes-Taylor YMCA – For more than 50 years, the Hayes-Taylor YMCA has provided a number of services for the community. Amenities include an indoor pool, a cardio room, gymnasium with suspended indoor walking track, child-watch, teen area, and multi-purpose room.
- McIver Education Center – This is a special education program for area students.
- McGirt-Horton Branch Library – The McGirt-Horton Branch is home to a unique collection of home improvement materials, including books, magazines, and how-to videos. You can even check out tools to help you with projects around the house.
- Peeler Recreation Center – This center, located in the Woodmere Park neighborhood, features youth basketball, football, and other recreational and educational programs.
- Smith Recreation Center – This center is well known for senior activities. It features an indoor pool for seniors, outside picnic tables, bocce ball courts, and horseshoe pits.
- Vance Chavis Branch Library – This branch library offers specialty computer classes for seniors and teens. Chavis also houses an extensive African-American collection of both fiction and nonfiction.
- War Memorial Stadium – War Memorial Stadium features a tournament quality baseball field that was previously operated as a professional baseball park. The stadium is available on a rental basis for tournaments and games.
- White Street Landfill – The landfill, located on White Street, accepts mostly yard waste and construction and demolition waste.
- Windsor Recreation Center – The center has programs for all members of the family and is located across the street from the Vance Chavis Branch Library.
