Awards Luncheon
In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and the Guilford Merchants Association, the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities sponsors an annual awards luncheon every May to recognize employers who have successfully employed people with disabilities. Deadline for submitting nominations for an award is April 15. The 2010 award winners are Handy Capable Network (small employer category), Harris Teeter at North Elm Village (medium employer category), Sodexo at NC A&T State University (large employer category) and Housing Greensboro (Brant Taylor Barrier Free Success Award).

Greensboro Rampathon
Greensboro Rampathon helps low-income homeowners with disabilities have access to ramps so they can get in and out of their homes with ease. The goal of the project, which is held every July, is to fund and build wheelchair ramps for those in need. Donations of time and supplies are always needed from the community.

Shoppers' Day
One of the largest functions the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities hosts is Shoppers' Day, a December shopping event to showcase the talent of people with disabilities and to allow community volunteers - primarily high school students - a chance to learn first-hand the barriers that people with disabilities face. Each year, more than 200 individuals with different abilities from throughout Guilford County participate.
