Public Input on Bonds
More than 100 individuals have shared their thoughts on possible bond projects for a fall referendum. Requested projects include an aquatics center, center city greenway, new library branches, the Greensboro Historical Museum, War Memorial Auditorium, a neighborhood park, War Memorial Stadium, and a roller hockey facility.
The next steps in the process are for City Council to select bond issues and amounts, file an application with the NC Local Government Commission, then hold a public hearing to receive public input on the bonds. Submit your bond suggestion.
HCD Gets an A+
During a recent management review of grants administered by the Housing & Community Development Department, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) found no areas of concern, the best possible result. Among the grants reviewed were the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Section 108 loans, HOME, and Brownfield Economic Development Initiative (BEDI). The programs help create jobs and affordable housing opportunities, stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods, and increase the tax base. This year, these programs provided $8.9 million to the City and leveraged much more in private investments.
