Council Budget Review
City Council is reviewing the 2006 - 07 budget to learn more about the budgeting process and the
inner workings of City departments. This year, Council members are divided into three committees. Each committee is reviewing seven departments in depth.
To facilitate the budget review, Council was given information before each meeting, such as department work plans, where cost savings could be found, and proposals for enhancements. Each group will meet to discuss how taxpayer money can be saved without sacrificing customer service. For more information on the budget, call the Budget and Evaluation Department at 373-2291.
Celebrate Fair Housing Month
April is Fair Housing Month and the City’s Fair Housing Division is celebrating the month by teaming up with the Greensboro Housing Coalition to teach residents about fair housing laws. Join them on Monday, April 10 at 12 noon on the Phill J. McDonald Governmental Plaza and learn about landlord/tenant rights, senior resources, code violations, and home repairs. For more information, contact Beth McKee-Huger with the Greensboro Housing Coalition at 691-9521.
In addition, the City will offer four free sessions on the Fair Housing Act. Sessions are set for April 17 and 25 from 9 am to 12 noon, and again from 1 to 4 pm at the City’s Learning Center, 1001 4th Street. Spanish speakers are available to any group interested in learning more about fair housing. For more information, call 373-2038.
Roundabouts – Newer and Safer Intersections
The City of Greensboro is nearing completion of its first modern roundabout at Greene and McGee Street. A roundabout is a circular intersection that lowers driving speeds and lessens the likelihood of accidents by eliminating left turns across traffic. Roundabouts also provide safer passage for pedestrians since they only need to cross one lane of traffic at a time. Learn more about the proper use of the roundabout by downloading the users guide or call 373-GDOT (4368).
Yard Waste Collection Reminders
If you’re spending this spring working in the yard, don’t put yard waste in your brown or green roll-out cans. Remember to:
Can It
Use your own metal or plastic trash can, no larger than 32 gallons. Filled cans should weigh no more than 50 pounds. If you were to place a lid on the can, all materials should be contained inside.
Bag It
Use only heavy duty clear plastic bags. Using black plastic bags, paper bags, and green recycling bags will result in non-collection. Filled bags must weigh less than 50 pounds.
Bundle It
Tie yard waste in bundles not more than five feet long and no heavier than 50 pounds.
