National Peace Officers Week to Celebrate Heroes
The Greensboro Police Department will honor fallen law enforcement officers on Friday, May 19 at 12 noon on the Phill G. McDonald
Governmental Plaza. Join the GPD to honor the heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep Triad communities safe. Officers from the Greensboro Police Department, Gibsonville Police Department, Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, High Point Police Department and the NC State Highway Patrol will be honored. "Bring the HEAT" Winners Announced
The Greensboro Transit Authority, operator of the soon-to-be-launched Higher Education
Area Transit (HEAT), has announced the winners of the "Bring the HEAT" bus design contest. Students from GTCC’s Graphic Arts and Advertising Design Department took the top three honors. First prize was awarded to Christa W. Andrews, with the two runner-up awards going to Jennifer Homer and Wing K. Lam. Elements of all the entries will be used for marketing purposes and customization of new service vehicles. This service expansion was funded by a $6 million federal grant and money from the NCDOT. The Bicentennial Commission Needs You!
Greensboro will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2008 and the City’s Bicentennial Commission is hard at work preparing for the event. Citizen participation will be crucial to the success of this celebration, and volunteers are still needed to help plan and prepare. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: history, special events, neighborhood and community, arts/cultural events, education, publicity and public relations, commemoration, fundraising, and budget and finance.
