Summit Avenue Corridor Plan

Artist's conception of Summit Avenue Corridor

The plan is designed to make the area more pedestrian-friendly.

City Council recently passed a resolution adopting the Summit Avenue Corridor Plan. The plan identifies ways to improve the area between Murrow Boulevard and Sullivan Street, and around War Memorial Stadium and the Farmer’s Market. Projects include creating tree lined medians, installing bike lanes and planting trees to create synergy among residents and businesses.

Public meetings were held over the past year to gather input on ways to improve the Summit Avenue. Participants gave ideas on how to encourage economic development through infill opportunities while enhancing the historic charm of the Aycock Neighborhood. Weekend activities included the 108th Annual Central Carolina Fair, a sold-out crowd of 2,390 at War Memorial Auditorium to see former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood in concert, two nights of Professional Bull Riding in the Coliseum arena, and the season opening performance of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. On top of these events, the Central Carolina Fair had a record breaking single-day attendance mark of 17,096.
