Police Chief Search Begins

Residents may give input into the selection process.

The official search for a new police chief has begun. Residents will have a number of opportunities to give their input on the qualities a new chief should possess:

  • A series of neighborhood meetings, one in each Council district, where citizens can give their thoughts on what we should look for in a Chief and what they desire from the Police Department the Chief will lead.
  • An online form where they can share their thoughts electronically.
  • A panel of community representatives who will interview top candidates and help narrow the pool to a group of finalists.

A nationwide search for the new chief will be conducted, and City Council hopes to have a new chief hired by June 2007. For more information, contact Connie Hammond.

Check Your Facts Website

Factual information about the police investigation is online at GreensboroCheckYourFacts.org.

In an effort to provide as much transparency as possible in Greensboro city government, the City has created a website dedicated to addressing misinformation about City efforts and issues: greensborocheckyourfacts.org. Greensboro City Manager Mitchell Johnson and Mayor Keith Holliday announced the new initiative during a press conference on Friday, October 6, and provided an update on the ongoing police investigation and the police chief selection process.

"This is a new way of doing business," Johnson said. "The initial focus on the website is on the Police Department investigation. The information on the site is intended to debunk some of the urban myths surrounding the investigation."
