2007-08 Budget Update

Council looks at ways to reduce the proposed 4-cent tax increase.

At their June 5 budget work session, Council members reviewed potential budget cuts suggested by the City Manager. If approved by Council, these changes would reduce the current proposed 4-cent tax increase. Council tentatively agreed to make most of the proposed changes. At the Council meeting held at 5:30 pm that same day, about 20 people spoke at a public hearing on the budget. The next budget work session will take place on June 12, and Council hopes to vote on the final budget at its June 19 meeting. For more information, call 373-2291.

Water Conservation Encouraged

Moderate drought conditions are not yet affecting Greensboro's water supply.Water: Use It Wisely logo

North Carolina and most of the Southeast are now in a moderate to extreme drought. While Greensboro is in the moderate drought area and our water supplies are at normal levels, we encourage all residents to use water efficiently, both inside and outside. Conserving water helps keep your water bills lower and protects this precious resource for future generations. Even though Greensboro residents are using less water since the record-breaking drought of 2001-02 and additional supplies are keeping our water levels at an adequate level, it's always a good idea to use water wisely

Latham Park Sewer Work Underway

Work will help reduce sewer overflows.

Latham ParkWork is underway in Latham Park to replace the existing sewer line with a larger pipe to help reduce sewer overflows. Trees have been removed and the sewer right-of-way is staked out. The new 54-inch sanitary sewer pipe will be buried 20 feet in the ground. Digging will begin in the fall and the project should be complete by January 2008. Once the project is finished, the City will plant replacement trees in the park. For more information, call 412-6314.
