Tim Bellamy is New Greensboro Police Chief
'Policing for Greensboro's Communities' is focus of new leadership.
Today marks the second full day of work for the new chief of the Greensboro Police Department. The selection of Tim Bellamy was announced on March 22 at a standing-room-only news conference. Bellamy has served as Interim Chief since January 9, 2006 and is a 24-year veteran of the department.
In announcing the decision, City Manager Mitch Johnson said, “Tim Bellamy is absolutely the right man at the right time for the Greensboro Police Department. He brings a unique blend of talents that are vital to the organization.” Johnson noted that Bellamy proved himself in his interim role time and again with his steady, calm approach that brought together and re-focused the department on moving forward.
Bellamy has developed the theme “Policing for Greensboro’s Communities” and has set priorities of rebuilding trust and confidence in the police force, and developing partnerships within the City organization and in the community. He will be officially sworn in as police chief in a ceremony on Tuesday, March 27 at 11:30 am in the City Council Chamber.
NCAA Fever: It's Not Over Yet!
Basketball fans can get a great deal on tickets and refreshments for tonight's regional championship game.
If this weekend's events are any indication, Greensboro has proven itself worthy to host the 2012 NCAA Women’s Final Four Tournament. More than 22,000 screaming fans poured into downtown Greensboro on Friday night for the Daughtry concert. On Saturday, the NCAA Women's Regional basketball championship games thrilled audiences at the Coliseum, and on Sunday, cheerleaders and marching bands performed during the Family Fanfest at Center City Park. And it’s not over yet! Come to the Coliseum tonight to make the Coliseum's bid for the 2012 Final Four a slam-dunk. The Coliseum is offering a special “Family Four Pack” for the 7 pm game between Arizona State and Rutgers. The Four Pack includes four tickets, four hot dogs and four small drinks for $40.
