Proposed Budget Cuts
Recommendations would help prevent a tax increase.
At City Council's request, City Manager Mitch Johnson has prepared a list of potential budget cuts and revenue increases for consideration in the 2007-08 budget in order to prevent a tax increase. At the March 27 Council briefing, Johnson shared the City's recommendations for reducing expenses.
The process started with City department heads, who came up with ways to reduce the budget by $6 million. They then met with the City Managers at a three-day retreat in February where they prioritized the proposed cuts. The recommendations were presented to Council members for their review. Downtown Design Kickoff
Your suggestions can help guide the future look of downtown Greensboro.
Downtown Greensboro is changing! In the past few years, renewed interest and development in the downtown area has blossomed, creating an exciting buzz for the area throughout North Carolina. With increased interest from residents, property owners, and developers, the City is poised to encourage new development that celebrates downtown Greensboro’s unique character and the areas that support it. Find out more about the downtown streetscape.
On Thursday, April 12, the City of Greensboro will conduct a kickoff meeting to get public feedback to create a design and compatibility manual that will guide future development in downtown. The manual will encourage high quality design and infill to enhance urban character. Anyone interested in the look of downtown’s future buildings is invited to attend the meeting at the Regency Room at the Elm Street Center on April 12 from 6-8 pm.
