Public Hearing Set for July 16 on Proposed Bond Issues

Residents are invited to attend to give input on the bond issues.

The Greensboro City Council has scheduled a special meeting at 7 pm on Wednesday, July 16, in Council Chambers in the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington Street to hear public comments on four important bond proposals totaling $205 million. Podium

Residents are invited to attend the meeting, step to the podium in City Council Chambers and offer opinions on the proposals which would come before voters in November if approved by City Council.

Bonds under consideration include: $134 million for transportation issues ranging from intersection improvements and sidewalks to greenways; $50 million for remodeling of the War Memorial Auditorium in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex; $20 million in Parks and Recreation bonds for projects ranging from a competitive swimming pool to an athletic field and facility improvements; and $1 million in housing bonds.

Major capital improvements in the City of Greensboro are typically funded by the issuance of bonds, much as an individual uses a mortgage to purchase a home. Public comment from residents is an important part of the process.

The City Council's regularly scheduled meeting takes place on Tuesday, July 15, at 5:30 pm.
