Engineering & Inspections
The Engineering & Inspections Department's six divisions work to provide safe and reliable public infrastructure through plan review and construction inspections of roadways and water and sewer infrastructure. The Department also works to provide safe homes and workplaces through the enforcement of the NC Building Code and local ordinances, building plan review, housing inspections, building and trades inspections, soil erosion and control, and abatement of nuisances, such as overgrown lots or abandoned vehicles.

The Department provides services to other City departments for the engineering, design, contract administration, and project management of roadway, water, sewer, sidewalk, and storm sewer projects, and for the construction and renovation of City facilities, such as fire stations, libraries, and recreation centers. It also provides mechanical, electrical, and custodial services to City-owned and operated facilities, manages and administers City of Greensboro franchise and cell tower agreements, acquires and manages City-owned properties and right-of-ways, and manages the filing and maintenance of all infrastructure and facilities plans and records.
