Public Safety Facilities

Work on the Guilford Metro 9-1-1 Center includes:

  • Recommissioning heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems (HVAC) with new, energy-efficient components and adjusting the controls to optimally efficient settings
  • Replacing existing lighting with high-efficiency lighting systems
  • Installing low-flow water fixture systems.

These initiatives are projected to save about $11,000 annually in energy costs for this building.

Work on Fire Stations includes:

  • Installing solar domestic hot water systems in nine stations
  • Replacing existing lighting in 11 stations with high-efficiency lighting systems
  • Installing low-flow water fixture systems in 12 stations.

These initiatives are projected to save about $21,200 annually in energy costs for these buildings.

Work on Police Stations includes:

  • Upgrading and installing additional computerized building automation systems in one station to optimally control and monitor heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and lighting systems
  • Recommissioning heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems (HVAC) in one station with new, energy-efficient components and adjusting the controls to optimally efficient settings
  • Replacing an existing, aging chiller in one station with a new, energy-efficient unit
  • Replacing existing lighting in two stations with high-efficiency lighting systems
  • Installing low-flow water fixture systems in one station.

These initiatives are projected to save about $29,000 annually in energy costs for these buildings.

An Energy Awareness Program that will target workers and visitors to all of these public safety facilities will be implemented. This campaign will educate building occupants and visitors on ways they can help reduce energy use further through simple behavior modifications.
