Minimum Housing Standards Commission
The Minimum Housing Standards Commission has seven members. Members are appointed by the Council for terms that expire on August 15. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month in the Melvin Municipal Office Building Council Chamber at 300 West Washington Street.
The duties of the minimum housing standards commission are to:
- Study rental rates, the need for reconditioning or condemnation, and other housing conditions within the city, and make recommendations to the Council concerning such matters.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by City Council.
- Hear and determine appeals from decisions of the building inspector upon any provision of Chapter 11.
The commission may inspect houses and living quarters in the city, and shall have the right to enter with the building inspector for that purpose in accordance with applicable law.
