Fire Chief Johnny W. Teeters

Fire Chief Johnny Wayne Teeters has been with the Greensboro Fire Department for more than 38 years. Originally hired as a firefighter, Chief Teeters worked his way up through the ranks and on February 1, 1999, he was selected as Fire Chief.

Chief Teeters has received numerous statewide honors and presently serves on several state and local boards. He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Protection Association, and the International Fire Commission. He studied Business Administration at Guilford College and holds an Associate's degree in Applied Science from Guilford Technical Community College. He has also studied at the University of Maryland, the National Fire Academy, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

Chief Teeters is committed to implementing positive and productive change for the Greensboro Fire Department. His vision is for the Greensboro Fire Department to be a community-based, regionally aligned organization: a department that is dedicated to service and excellence through superior leadership and technology; a department that fosters a climate of openness, trust and diversity; and one that recognizes the achievement of people working together. Chief Teeters is active in many community groups, including the Bicentennial Mosaic Partnerships Project, the 100 Club, and Greensboro’s Leadership Roundtable.
