About the Greensboro Fire Department
The Greensboro Fire Department is nationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The Insurance Services Office also rates the department as Class 1.

The GFD employs approximately 500 men and women and is growing. The Emergency Services Division includes twenty three (23) fire stations housing twenty two (22) Engine Companies, nine (9) Quints Companies, and one (1) Heavy Rescue Company.

Salary

Starting salary for the Greensboro Fire Department (as of July 1, 2008):

Firefighter I - $31,415*

*Educational incentives are offered to those with a two-year or four-year degree within the first six months of hiring contingent on completing the Recruit Academy as well as the six-month Firefighter I Exam.
