Clarence M. Hunter Selected as Greensboro Deputy Fire Chief
GREENSBORO, NC (December 15, 2010) -- Veteran firefighter Clarence M. Hunter has been selected as Greensboro’s newest deputy fire chief. He will be responsible for the support services branch of the fire department.
A member of the department for more than 25 years, Hunter has served in every division and worked as firefighter, captain, battalion chief and assistant chief. He has served as an assistant chief in the department since 1997 and holds a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University and has completed numerous professional development programs through the National Fire Academy. Hunter follows Deputy Chief David E. Spears, who is retiring effective January 31, 2011.
“We are excited that Deputy Chief Hunter will bring his solid experience and strong interpersonal skills to the Deputy Fire Chief’s role,” says Greensboro Fire Chief Gregory H. Grayson. “His optimism coupled with his dedication and commitment to serving Greensboro is outstanding.”
Hunter was selected following a multi-disciplined assessment process that included performance scenarios, presentations and demonstrated leadership competencies. The assessment process utilized external assessors from other municipal fire departments and other city government departments, along with internal performance feedback.
The Greensboro Fire Department is in the top 5 percent in demonstrated performance of all fire departments in both North Carolina and the United States.
