Driveway Permits

Commercial Driveway Permits

The Greensboro Department of Transportation reviews all new commercial driveway permits inside the City limits. All driveways must be built in accordance with the City of Greensboro Driveway Manual prior to GDOT approval.

Driveways on state system streets within the City limits require GDOT approval prior to review by NCDOT.

Residential Driveway Permits

All residential driveway permits are handled by Building Inspections.

Commercial Driveway Permit Flowchart

  1. Plans submitted to Planning Department for concurrent review by City departments

  2. GDOT provides review comments

  3. Revised plans submitted to Planning Department. Driveway permit submitted to GDOT with two copies of revised site/driveway plans. Note: For NCDOT driveways, submit six copies of the revised site/driveway plans.

  4. TRC / Staff approval

  5. Contractor picks up permit at building inspections ($20 per driveway). Note: Add an additional three to four weeks of review time to steps 4-5 for NCDOT driveways.
