Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) joins organizations and industries across the nation in responding to the threat of the H1N1 Influenza Virus. Characterized as a possible epidemic, the virus is comprised of three different strains of human, swine, and avian (bird) flu viruses. It's easily transferable between humans, especially in confined areas such as a transit bus. The American Public Transportation Association has begun monitoring the effects of H1N1 on transit services around the country and is positioned to respond nationally to any effects on public mobility.
Because the nature of transit services requires riders and operators to remain in an enclosed area for various lengths of time, GTA now has procedures in place to address the potential of an H1N1 epidemic. The plan includes operational procedures as well as public education to counteract any potential outbreaks while ensuring the stability of public transportation services.
