Planning Phases
Phase 1
Action Greensboro opened Phase 1 of the Greenway from S. Eugene Street to W. Lee Street in March of 2010. Phase 1 from W. Lee Street to Spring Garden Street is funded with construction grants soon to be received. Phase 1 design activities from S. Eugene Street to E. Lee Street are pending.

Phase 2
The City has completed the preliminary design for Phase 2. Phase 2 is accommodated on existing roadways along Murrow Boulevard and Fisher Avenue from E. Lee Street to N. Eugene Street.

Phase 3
The City is finalizing the preliminary design for Phase 3. This phase is accommodated on existing roadways along N. Eugene Street and Smith Street, ending at the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway.

Phase 4
Phase 4 will be built on top of the historic Atlantic and Yadkin Railroad once the sole remaining user abandons the rail line. Design activities for this phase will be completed when the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway is designed. The 3.2 mile Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway from Markland Drive to Spring Garden Street includes Phase 4 (0.9 miles).

See Action Greensboro’s Downtown Greenway website for more information.

TIGER II Application for the Downtown Greenway
The City recently submitted an application for US DOT TIGER II funds. The TIGER II competitive application process favors projects with a positive cost-benefit ratio that also enhance mobility, increase economic competitiveness, and promote livable and sustainable communities.

The City applied for TIGER II construction funds for Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the Downtown Greenway and requested planning funds to design the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway from Markland Drive to Spring Garden Street, including Phase 4 of the Downtown Greenway. The application also included a request for revolving loan funds that would encourage alternative transportation supportive development adjacent to the Greenway.

The TIGER II application's Project Narrative summarizes the Downtown Greenway's alignment with the TIGER II evaluation criteria. The Appendix contains the project's design renderings, cost estimates, cost-benefit analysis, and letters of support.
