Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) manages the transportation planning process required by Federal law. The MPO plans for our area's surface transportation needs, including highways, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities.
Priorities of the MPO:
- Promoting the safe and efficient management, operation, and development of transportation systems
- Serving the mobility needs of people and freight
- Fostering economic growth and development
- Minimizing the negative effects of transportation, including air pollution.
The Greensboro Urban Area MPO is updating the region's Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenway Master Plan (BiPed). For information on the update and upcoming public input workshops, visit the BiPed Update page.
The Greensboro metropolitan planning area includes most of Guilford County. Burlington, Gibsonville, Whitsett and nearby unincorporated areas are served by the Burlington-Graham MPO; High Point, Jamestown and nearby unincorporated areas are served by the High Point Urban Area MPO.
