Guilford Metro 9-1-1 Center Equipment

State-of-the-Art Consoles

Communications personnel perform their duties while working at state-of-the-art consoles that can be adjusted to allow each communicator to work in an ergonomically-correct environment. The consoles also have individual climate control and task lighting.

The external electrical service used in both centers is backed up by an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery backup system that allows operations to continue during power outages / interruptions, until backup generators can begin to provide electricity to the center.

Weather Monitoring

Both centers are also equipped with DTN weather monitoring systems (manufactured by Data Transmission Network). This system receives a direct satellite feed that provides current weather conditions and forecasts up to a week ahead from across the United States. The data from this system is updated every 15 minutes.

The system also relays alerts that are broadcast by the National Weather Service, allowing the center to effectively prepare for storms that may threaten our area. Additional information, such as wind direction, can be obtained for use by field responders, such as firefighters on the scene of a chemical spill or gas leak.

Security

Both centers are equipped with a high-tech, multi-layered security system that includes multiple perimeter cameras, a keyless identification card entry / access network, and an intercom system. Inside the communications centers, personnel are able to monitor all cameras and to speak with individuals through the intercom system.

Guilford Metro 9-1-1, in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, has access to the regional traffic camera system located throughout the city and county. Communications personnel are able to control many of these cameras to assist emergency personnel responding to vehicle crashes, building fires, roadside fires, car fires and suspect/vehicle pursuits.
