An Evening with Julia McGirt Nixon
 On Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Emerald Event Center, a fantastic audience of neighborhood supporters, library enthusiasts, staff members and family enjoyed an evening of dinner, cool jazz and R&B tunes to celebrate and bring awareness to the development of the new McGirt-Horton Branch Library that is currently underway.
The star guest was Julia McGirt Nixon, a direct descendant of the McGirt family for whom the library branch is named. She is a former Broadway Dreamgirl and award-winning artist. For the event, Julia sung authentic R&B, which has been her signature style for more than two decades.
