The McGirt-Horton Branch Library Quilt Project

McGirt-Horton Quilt Project
A quilt advisory committee and the Concerned Citizens of Northeast Greensboro met together to plan a quilt project that would include everyone in the community, especially the children. From September 12 through November 8, 2005, more than 40 children of the McGirt-Horton community participated in original story writing and the creation of a story quilt. The quilt would represent ideas from the committees and the children’s own input. The outcome would be to see how the library has become a main focus in their lives. The final project, led by Susie Wilde and Peg Gignoux, evolved into a beautiful three-panel tapestry called We Need Books Too. Pop-up books were also made by the children to express their experiences and feelings for the project. Children can also be seen in a photo exhibit showcasing the cooperative process.
