David Caldwell Historic Park
dchp logoGreensboro Historical Museum has branched out with the addition of the David Caldwell Historic Park! The park is just four miles from the downtown Historical Museum.

The park's namesake, David Caldwell, and his wife, Rachel, moved to Guilford County in 1765, 43 years before Greensboro’s founding in 1808. David Caldwell served the community as the minister of Buffalo Presbyterian and Alamance Presbyterian churches, as a physician, and as founder of "Log College," which educated many prominent men of the day. Caldwell’s influence spread through Guilford County and the state of North Carolina before, during and after the Revolutionary War.

He was born in Pennsylvania and died in Guilford County, NC in 1824.

Caldwell's home and school were in the area adjacent to Tanger Family Bicentennial Gardens. Archaeological investigations have found evidence of the foundations of the original Caldwell house. Stones now mark the foundation boundaries of the cellar and investigations continue on-site to determine other features on the Caldwells’ land. Share your community's stories.

The museum is a place to interpret the lives of David and Rachel Caldwell and their colonial neighbors, as well as a place to share our community's family stories. We would love to hear from you.
