City Directories You can look under people's names and get addresses, telephone numbers, their spouse’s name, and job, or you can search under the name of a business for an address, phone number, and the head of the business. By searching under a street address, you can find out who lives there or what business is in that location.

David Caldwell One of Greensboro's outstanding residents. He moved here in 1765 and died in 1824, so his life in Guilford County covers many years and many changes. He was known as the minister of Buffalo Presbyterian and Alamance Presbyterian churches, a physician, and the founder of Log College which educated many prominent men of the day.
Dolley Madison Dolley, who was one of our nation’s most beloved first ladies, was born to a Quaker family in the New Garden area, now part of Greensboro.

Guilford Files Newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and other materials about the history of Greensboro and Guilford County. These resources provide much information for researchers, and frequently no books contain the facts found here.
History of Your Home start with the city directories, going back as far as 1879/80, then discover books with pictures and descriptions of historic houses, art books showing some prominent homes from the early part of the 20th century, and resources for finding biographical information about people who lived in the houses.
