Jill McCorkle To Speak at Friends of the Library Annual Meeting
GREENSBORO, NC (March 8, 2010)-- Join the Friends of the Greensboro Public Library for an evening with two of North Carolina’s most prominent writers, Jill McCorkle and Carole Boston Weatherford, at 5 pm Thursday, March 11, at the Greensboro Historical Museum, 130 Summit Ave.
Guest speaker Jill McCorkle is an award-winning author whose most recent book is a collection of short stories titled Going Away Shoes. She is the author of eight previous books, five of which have been selected as New York Times Notable Books. McCorkle is the winner of the New England Book Award, the John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literature and the North Carolina Award for Literature. She teaches writing at North Carolina State University and lives with her husband in Hillsborough.
New York Times best-selling poet and children’s book author Carole Boston Weatherford will be honored as this year’s Friends of the Library Literary Laurel. Carole is a local author living in High Point whose books have received numerous awards including Caldecott Honors.
The evening will include a book signing and reception with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 and proceeds benefit the Friends of the Greensboro Public Library. The organization is dedicated to supporting the mission of the public library and serves the community by providing additional funding and volunteers to help make Library programs successful.
