Future Cents Year End Bash

Teen Money Management Program
Saturday, November 20, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Central Library, 219 N. Church St.

Future Cents is a Greensboro Public Library financial education project for young people. As the program winds down for the 2010 season, the Library is hosting a celebration for teens and their families. Vendors will provide games, activities, and prizes. Cold Stone Creamery will be on hand to serve ice cream and there will be plenty of surprises, including Wii gaming on a big screen.

“This free event is a fun way to wrap up the Future Cents program for 2010 while promoting awareness of community organizations who share our mission to providing money and life management skills to young people,” project coordinator Martha Larson says. Teens who have attend four of the Future Cents sessions were entered in a drawing for an iPad and the winner will be announced at this event. Anyone interested in learning more about Future Cents programs in 2011 is encouraged to attend.

“Future Cents has helped young people understand that they have control over their money and provided the lessons to help these teens work toward achieving financial security,” notes Larson. The program included workshops ranging from the very basic to advanced investment concepts.

Future Cents was made possible by a grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). FINRA regulates all securities firms doing business in the United States. The grant program, administered by the American Library Association, is funded by the proceeds of fines that have been levied by FINRA against securities firms for wrongdoing.
