LifeVerse Project Needs Volunteers Library Program Pairs Volunteers With Seniors
LifeVerse is an inter-generational project that uses poetry and verse to create conversations between volunteers and older adults. The program began last fall and has been very popular with all participants. “In the first three months we trained over 60 volunteers, held over 40 sessions and worked with hundreds of participants,” notes Assistant Library Director Steve Sumerford. “We are seeking volunteers to lead conversations in homes, retirement centers, nursing facilities, places of worship, libraries and coffee shops throughout the city.”
For volunteers, this is an ideal opportunity to learn from and enjoy the company of an elder. Volunteers will be trained to be effective facilitators and then assigned to work with an individual or small group of older adults.
Training Programs: January 27, from 3-6 pm at Central Library January 30, from 6-9 pm at Central Library February 5, from 10 am-1 pm at Central Library
