North Carolina's Pirates, Privateers, & Rebel Raiders Monday, June 23 at 7 pm Central Library, 219 N. Church Street
Hear about North Carolina's early days as an English maritime colony facing sea outlaws and pirates. Join Dr. Lindley Butler, historian and author of Pirates, Privateers, and Rebel Raiders of the Carolina Coast.
In 1718, the flagship of the feared pirate Blackbeard, The Queen Anne's Revenge, was finally sunk off the North Carolina coast. It was rediscovered in the 20th century and Dr. Butler is the historian of the Queen Anne's Revenge Shipwreck Project. He also served as historical consultant on the 2006 dramatic film Blackbeard: Terror at Sea.
This program with Dr. Butler offers historical background and context to Triad Stage’s production of Bloody Blackbeard which runs through July 6. Refreshments will follow the discussion.
