GREENSBORO, NC (September 17, 2008) Library Announces One City, One Book Selection
The Pleasure Was Mine by Tommy Hays Kickoff Event October 19, 3 pm at Central Library 219 North Church St.
This fall, thousands of people in Greensboro will be reading and discussing The Pleasure Was Mine, a novel by Asheville author Tommy Hays. Greensboro Public Library will offer programs and events covering topics related to the book such as aging, health care, family relationships, Alzheimer’s disease, Southern fiction and the ways that art can be a healing force during difficult times.
Our kickoff event on October 19 at 3 pm will feature: • A reception with author Tommy Hays • Resources for caregivers • Creative activities for people with dementia (provided by the Center for Creative Aging) • A clogging demonstration • A theatrical presentation by Seniors Reaching Out (Community Theatre of Greensboro)
The Library will provide facilitator training for anyone who would like to lead a group discussion about the book and the issues that are relevant to individuals and the community at large. We have also formed a speaker’s bureau of area experts to discuss topics related to aging and care giving. If you are interested in facilitator training or if your organization would like to have a speaker come and present information related to these issues, please contact Steve Sumerford at 373-3636.
