Library’s One City, One Book Project Gets Theatrical Treatment
GREENSBORO, NC -- (October 6, 2010) -- The Soloist, a stage adaptation of this year's selection for the Greensboro Public Library's biennial One City, One Book project, will be presented by the Touring Theatre of North Carolina October 12-17 at Triad Stage, 232 S. Elm St. Performances are at 8 pm each day except October 17, when the show begins instead at 2 pm.
Tickets are $7.50 and available through the Triad Stage box office at 336-272-0160. The October 12 performance is a “Pay-What-You-Can” event.
The Soloist is the story of Nathaniel Ayers, a gifted musician who once studied at Julliard, now homeless and suffering from schizophrenia. His life is altered the day he meets Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez who, looking for a good story, discovered the true meaning of friendship and the heartbreak of mental illness.
Every two years the Greensboro Public Library sponsors a community read called One City, One Book. The project was created to bring residents together to discuss one book and the issues that relate to our community. This year’s One City, One Book offers a diverse menu of programs and events including lectures, films, theater, concerts, art exhibits and, of course, book discussion groups. The project typically attracts more than 10,000 people who come together to read and discuss a single book.
