Growing, the Green Way 2009

“Growing, the Green Way” is an environmental education series, co-sponsored by Greensboro Parks and Recreation, Bur-Mil Park, the NC Cooperative Extension Service, and Greensboro Beautiful Inc. Our mission is to offer a broad spectrum of environmental classes that help to save time and money while expanding your knowledge of landscaping and gardening. Classes are free unless otherwise noted.
Classes will be held at three regular locations:

Class size is limited to 30 people at the Greensboro Arboretum Education Building and the Bur-Mil Park Wildlife Education Center, so make your reservations early.

Christmas Centerpieces Learn new tricks to create a sensational centerpiece combining fruit, flowers and seasonal materials that mix “traditional” with “trendy” to compliment your festive holiday table. Bring your favorite bowl or small container and we will provide the rest. Grow Your Own Small Fruits at Home If dreams of fresh strawberries and plump raspberries are dancing in your head, why not make those dreams come true in your own backyard? With just a little know-how, these small fruits are easy to produce at home. Carolina Landscapes - CYN Learn how to design, install and maintain a Carolina yard, one that works with our environment rather than against it. Learn design principles, proper site and plant selection, soils and bed preparation along with pest control. Be Healthy, Grow What You Eat Learn about growing conditions, how to prepare soil, the selection of vegetable varieties for the Piedmont, how to design an efficient, space-saving raised bed, and how to identify and control insects and diseases organically. An All Natural Easter Organic dyes made from vegetables and herbs give rich, earthy colors to eggs. To celebrate spring, many ancient cultures dyed eggs and gave them as gifts. Our ancestors however did not use dye tablets that fizzed! They colored their eggs with dyes made from materials found in nature. We will provide the eggs and the basket as well as the dye material. Join us for a class on old and new methods for preventing wildlife damage to your garden, home, and sanity.
