Fun For All Playground
Great News

At the December meeting of the Guilford County Commissioner's the commissioners approved just over $1 million dollars to improve the handicapped accessibility of Hagan-Stone Park. Some of these funds will be used to build the Fun For All Playground so that all children and their families can experience the joy of the playground. We will continue to accept donations for the playground so that every dollar generated can be used to improve this wonderful facility. So please, continue to donate to this very worthy cause.

"Fun For All" PlaygroundA group of concerned parents approached the management of Hagan-Stone Park with an offer to raise funds for playground equipment to be used by children of all abilities. Currently, much of the play equipment in the park complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), but is not fully accessible for children with mobility limitations. As a result, a playground committee was formed to investigate acquiring new handicap accessible play equipment.

Final playground designs are being developed and evaluated. The Fun For All Playground Committee is asking for community support to make this playground a reality. Only with your help will we be able to provide an accessible playground for all children to enjoy, including the Camp Joy Day Camp participants. It is the hope of the committee to generate enough funds to be able to complete the entire project. As of August 2010 the committee has been able to raise  over $109,000.

More Great News: Playground Under ConstructionThe Fun For All Playground equipment has been purchased and construction of the project is under way. The equipment is the first part of the construction, so children and parents will have to wait just a while longer for all construction to be completed before the playground is opened. Once the equipment is installed other portions of the project such as concrete sidewalks, parking lot grading and paving, restroom renovations, and landscaping will have to be completed before the area is available for use. We are extremely excited to be in the construction phase of this long-awaited project.

You Can Still HelpWe invite you to join our community fundraiser to build a fantastic handicapped accessible Fun For All Playground at Hagan-Stone Park. We encourage you to make a donation and assist us with completing this project. The new playground will include large ramps for wheelchair and walker accessibility and lots of creative play equipment for all kids. We still need funding to purchase benches, trash receptacles, shade structures and more. We also want to place a picnic shelter in the new Fun For All Playground area so that groups can reserve and use the shelter for birthday parties, family gatherings, celebrations, family reunions and all types of gatherings. If you, someone you know or your organization, business or company would like to sponsor the shelter please contact Terry Ward, Manager  of Hagan-Stone Park . All tax-deductible contributions will help generate funds to make this playground a reality. Donations in any amount will be greatly appreciated by all the children!
