Greensboro Watershed Parks

The City of Greensboro's "City Lakes" has a new name -- Watershed Parks -- and a new logo (above right), both of which best fits the definition of what we are and how we serve the public. The new name and logo stem from the versatility of what we have to offer at our lake and park facilities: environmental programs, nature trails, and recreational events and activities the entire family can enjoy.

Our new logo shows the three areas Watershed Parks is dedicated to protecting: the environment (yellow), lakes (blue), and parks (green). Our goal is to educate the public on how they also can protect and conserve these valuable resources. See what we have to offer!

The City of Greensboro provides a variety of recreational activities for the public at our three water supply reservoirs. The Watershed Parks are located at Lake Higgins, Lake Townsend, and Lake Brandt and offer traditional outdoor activities, such as fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, hiking and picnicking.

For anglers, the lakes are stocked with largemouth bass, Bodie bass (hybrid), crappie, catfish and sunfish. Rowboats are available on a rental basis for year-round enjoyment. Kayaks, canoes and sailboats can be rented seasonally. You can get annual permits and fishing and hunting licenses at each Watershed Park.

The parks have many classes to offer including instructional classes for archery, sailing and kayaking, as well as environmental, & educational programs. Special events are held year-around and some of these events are The Flying Frog Adventure Race, Outdoor Skills Camp, Haunted Trail, Kayak Races, fishing tournaments and much more.

Dry dock storage is available at Lake Townsend. Kayak and canoe storage is available at both Lake Higgins and Lake Brandt. In addition, a picnic shelter is available at Lake Higgins and Lake Brandt.

The Watershed Parks are surrounded by more than 36 miles of watershed trails. The trails provide a great opportunity to take in the natural scenery around the lakes, and are adorned with vibrant wildflowers, trees and wildlife.
