Lake Higgins is a 226-acre municipal reservoir. The lake was constructed in 1956 and was later named in honor of Vic Higgins, who served on the Greensboro City Council from 1955-1957. Lake Higgins is located on Hamburg Mill Road, off Highway 220 North. It is the smallest of the three City lakes, yet offers some of the best fishing in the area. Fishing from a boat or pier, kayaking and canoeing are also available at Lake Higgins. Rowboats, kayaks and canoes are available for daily rentals. In addition, a launch ramp is open for launching private boats. The Taylor Turner Hatchery Pond, established in 1988, is used to nurture catfish and trout in season. The pond can accommodate as many as 6,000 fish at a time. Lake Higgins also has a classroom especially designed for educational programs.
