Join the Greensboro trails community for its biggest event of the year!

Join us from 7:30-10 am for your choice of on-the-trail activity!


Long Hike - 7:30 am - This roughly 10-mile hike of lakeshore trails will be led by members of the Piedmont Hiking and Outing Club. Meet the group at Bur-Mil Park's Wildlife Education Center. Hikers will experience the great outdoors along the Palmetto, Nat Greene, and Piedmont trails, ending at Bur-Mil Park at about 11:30 am. Make sure to have appropriate shoes, water and a light snack.

Short Hike - 9 am - This 3.3-mile hike of the Piedmont trail will be led by members of the Piedmont Hiking and Outing Club. Meet at Bur-Mil Park's Wildlife Education Center. A shuttle will take you to the starting point on Lake Brandt Rd and the hike ends at Bur-Mil Park at about 10:30 am.

Mountain Bike Ride - 9 am - Give trail riding a spin on this scenic 3-mile loop trail. Led by Paceline Bicycles, this bike ride is for anyone with a mountain bike or any other bike with hybrid tires. A longer alternate route is available for those mountain bikers hungry for a more of a challenge. Meet at the Lake Brandt Greenway trailhead behind the Wildlife Education Center at Bur-Mil Park.

Guided Nature Walk - 10 am - Join Neil Thompson, park ranger and geologist, for a 1-mile interpretive nature walk for kids of all ages. Neil will point out some unique natural and historical features on the Palmetto trail. The group will return to the park with plenty of time to enjoy the festival. For this trail walk, meet Ranger Neil at shelter #5 in Bur-Mil Park.

Festival Favorites -  The Trails Festivities At National Trails Day
Fair features diverse and interactive exhibits that provide information on the latest happenings on and around Greensboro's trails, the wildlife, the health benefits of trails and healthy lifestyles, and the fun to be had in the great outdoors! Be sure to get a free ticket when you arrive for a chance to win some really great raffle prizes, donated by many local and national sponsors! 

Live Music - Feet will be tapping, and possibly even dancing, when local band Trail Mix Blue Grass takes the stage.  Find out more about Trail Mix Bluegrass Band.

Kayak Demos - Have you ever wanted to try out kayaking to see if you like it? Here is your chance! The Tarheel Paddlers will have kayaks available on Bur-Mil Park's fishing pond, and will be helping anyone interested to get a quick "test drive" experience.  Once you're hooked, the Tarheel Paddlers will have more information on how you might get started on a kayaking adventure of your own.  This is a safe activity for adults and children ages ten and up.
