Under Development The term greenway usually means an off-road multi-use path, accommodating pedestrians, bicyclists and other users. Sometimes, greenways are simply unimproved green corridors for wildlife, sometimes they're unpaved trails, and sometimes they're on-street in the form of sidewalks and bicycle facilities. The City's BiPed Plan recommends more than 400 miles of greenways for the Greensboro area.
Greenways Coming Soon...
Greensboro Parks & Recreation is working with GDOT and Guilford County Parks & Open Space to develop more greenways. Here are some of the most recent projects:
- Battleground Rail-Trail - a paved multi-use trail paralleling Battleground Avenue from Pisgah Church Road at the terminus of the Bicentennial Greenway to Markland Drive. It will eventually extend to downtown, roughly following the now abandoned Atlantic and Yadkin Railroad corridor.
- Downtown Greenway - a proposed loop around downtown Greensboro made up of on and off-street greenway links. This greenway will eventually connect to the Battleground Rail-Trail, completing a route from downtown Greensboro to Summerfield.
