Nat Greene Trail is one of the oldest and most popular of the City's watershed trails. It winds through diverse mixed hardwoods and pines along the watershed buffer of Lake Brandt’s southeast edge. Wildflowers and running cedar adorn the trail as it meanders around the coves of Lake Brandt. Explore the trail from Lake Brandt Marina and learn about the plant and tree diversity on the interpretive signs interspersed along the trail. A 200-foot boardwalk near the Old Battleground Road trailhead allows hikers to cross mud flats and bogs where Horse Pen Creek feeds into Lake Brandt.

Sponsored by the Piedmont Hiking and Outing Club, Nat Greene Trail is one of six watershed trails designated as part of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail system.

How do I get there?

The Nat Greene Trail is accessible at the Lake Brandt Marina. Trail parking is available at the marina next to the large trailhead sign. The marina is closed on Tuesdays, but parking is available on the right side of the gate with the trail access on the left. Parking is also available in the small gravel lot at the trailhead, east of Horse Pen Creek on Old Battleground Road. Access to the trail is also available at the intersection with the Lake Brandt Greenway, just south of the H. Michael Weaver Bridge.
 

Please Note:
Bicycles are prohibited on the Nat Greene Trail.Lake Brandt Marina is closed on Tuesdays. Please use the trail access outside the gate. This trail is linear and will double the distance on a trip out and back. The Watershed Trails are open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
