Use of Volunteers
Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department believes volunteers are a vital part of the success of the Department. We rely on volunteers to support, guide, and assist P&R professional staff in many roles. Volunteers are recruited and selected for their specific interest and talents.
Annually, the Parks and Recreation Department uses about 1,220 volunteers who contribute 30,735 hours for an estimated value of $307,350. Many volunteers bring vast knowledge and years of experience to their chosen volunteer opportunity. Their commitment is rewarded with verbal and written recognitions, as well as awards.
Volunteers are used for:
- Program Leadership
- Public Relations/Promotion and Education
- Clerical Services
- Advisory Councils
These volunteer opportunities provide essential support and leadership roles in community recreation, youth and adult sports, senior citizen programs, activities for individuals with special disabilities, beautification projects, environmental activities, and the programs of City Arts. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are given the opportunity to meet new people, work together with the community, and help assure quality of life experiences for Greensboro citizens.
All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application, Volunteer Agreement, Release of Liability, and a Volunteer Code of Ethics. Depending on the volunteer assignment, other forms may be required. The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department requires a criminal background check on all volunteers prior to placement. The volunteer must agree to the background check during the orientation process prior to clearance to begin service.
