Greensboro Watershed Parks and Trails

The City of Greensboro provides a variety of recreational activities for the public at our three water supply reservoirs. The Watershed Parks are located at Lake Higgins, Lake Townsend, and Lake Brandt, and offer traditional outdoor activities, such as fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, hiking, and picnicking.

For anglers, the lakes are stocked with largemouth bass, Bodie bass (hybrid), crappie, catfish, and sunfish. Rowboats are available on a rental basis for year-round enjoyment. Kayaks, canoes, and sailboats can be rented seasonally. You can get annual permits and fishing and hunting licenses at each watershed park.

The watershed parks have many activities / programs to offer, such as instructional classes for sailing, archery, and kayaking, environmental programs, kid's fishing programs, hunter safety classes, and much more. Special events are held year around such as The Flying Frog Adventure Race, Outdoor Skills Camp, The Haunted Trail, Flat-Water Kayak Race, National Fishing Week, and various fishing tournaments.

Dry dock storage is available at Lake Townsend. Kayak and canoe storage is available at both Lake Higgins and Lake Brandt. In addition, a picnic shelter is available at Lake Higgins and Lake Brandt.

The watershed parks are surrounded by more than 36 miles of watershed trails. The trails provide a great opportunity to take in the natural scenery around the lakes, and are adorned with vibrant wildflowers, trees, and wildlife.
