Getting Involved in Good Environmental Stewardship!
Hey Kids! Now that you’re heading back to school, Greensboro Parks and Recreation has a great way for you and your classmates to help our environment. Big Sweep, the litter pickup campaign in Guilford County, will be held on Saturday, September 20 from 9 am to 12 noon. Last year, the North Carolina Big Sweep event involved more than 17,000 people who volunteered to pick up more than 290 tons of garbage. With your help we can make it an even bigger, more successful “sweep” this year!
Join Big Sweep to help us keep Greensboro clean and beautiful. Pollution and littering destroy wildlife habitat and food sources, and ruin many opportunities for recreation.
We need you! This year, here in Greensboro, Big Sweep, Litter Sweep and a Neighborhood Cleanup will be combined into one citywide cleanup day. Volunteers and City staff will work together to clean up streets, waterways and neighborhoods throughout Greensboro. Volunteers can participate in one of two ways:
- Find a stream, park, roadside, parking lot, or an area in your neighborhood, near your school, office, or church that needs cleaning up
- Get your neighbors to help clean up the neighborhood! The City of Greensboro will provide garbage trucks for bulk trash, yard waste and scrap tires
