Southwest Recreation Center Development & Construction
Project Description:
This project will develop Southwest Recreation Center, Greensboro's newest recreation center. Located on Shimer Drive off of Hilltop Road in southwest Greensboro, the recreation center and surrounding park are designed to serve this growing area.
The master planning process was begun in 2006. Three public input meetings were held to gather information regarding the needs and desires of citizens. A fourth meeting will occur during June 13 Parks & Recreation Commission meeting.
Elements include the construction of :
Phase 1:
- 15,000-square-foot recreation center, to include a gym, fitness center, fitness rooms, and meeting rooms
- Related infrastructure such as a park road and parking
- Natural trails
- Site improvements including landscaping and playground area
Review the park's master plan.
Project Timeline:
Construction for Phase I is anticipated to begin in the winter of 2009. Completion of Phase I is anticipated in the winter of 2010.
Special Notes:
The projected completion of Phase II is contingent on future bond dollars.
