Mission:
The Parents Association for Youth Sports (PAYS) is a membership association of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS). The purpose of PAYS is to educate and motivate parents to create the ultimate youth sports environment to make the child's experience safe, positive and meaningful. PAYS encourages good sportsmanship, positive participation and keeping youth sports in a proper perspective among members.

The PAYS program also hopes to provide every child participating in youth sports the opportunity to learn, grow, develop skills, meet new friends, and experience the excitement and fun associated with participation in youth sports.

In 2001, the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department launched its mandatory PAYS program. Sports include youth football, cheerleading, youth soccer, and youth baseball. At least one parent from each family who has a child involved in youth sports must be members of PAYS in order to participate in programs. The membership process includes watching a 20-minute video, signing a "Parents Code of Ethics," talking to a PAYS clinician and paying a $5 membership fee, which covers five years of participation in Greensboro Parks & Recreation programs.

Choose from a variety of ways to obtain a PAYS membership:

  • Visit the PAYS website and click on the PAYS logo. Follow instructions and use Code #1141 for Greensboro Parks & Recreation.
  • Attend a PAYS clinic that is conducted especially for your group or organization.
  • Watch the PAYS video and talk to a clinician at the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Athletics office, 501 Yanceyville Street.
  • Watch the video and talk to a clinician by appointment at your local recreation center.
  • Watch the video on Greensboro Cable Channel 13, write down the program code, then visit the Athletics office or your local recreation center to talk to a clinician. Contact Athletics for a schedule of PAYS video presentations.

The PAYS Program video can be seen on Greensboro Cable Channel 13 on the following days and times: Mondays at 9:30 pm; Fridays at 10:30 pm; and Saturdays at 8 am. The showing of the PAYS video may be pre-empted due to last-minute program changes on Channel 13.
